Adler's first peep!

Some of you might be asking by now – “Who the hell’s Adler and what on earth is he doing in a nest?”

Well… Here it goes. Adler is German for Eagle so, it makes some sense to find it in a nest. But Adler is also the name of René Sterne’s most famous cartoon character – Adler Vonberg. Adler was a fighter pilot during WWII fighting for the German Luftwaffe. Inebriated by the adventure and the chance to fly some of the best plains at the time, Adler soon realized that he was fighting the wrong side of the war and deserted. Following the end of the war, Adler became a civilian pilot flying for Air Freight Delhi. Adler’s three passions are flying, his beautiful companion Helen and traveling around the world looking for adventures.

I have been working as an biologist for the last 13 years. During this period I have helped repopulate some of Portugal’s Mountain ranges with Red Deers and Roe Deers in an attempted to recover wolf packs in those areas. I captured Roe Deers with my own hands in a thrilling and quit wild experience. I have followed the tracks of many Red Foxes and learned how they marked their territory. I came to recognize their odor and to know their way trough the forest by smelling their odoriferous path. I looked deep into a lioness’s eyes as she stood four meters away from me and crossed, overwhelmed, a herd of buffalos with its dominant male becoming aggressive to defend it’s group. I stood in the outskirts of the great Mayombe forest, amazed by the exotic voices of the forest, facing 50 m high trees, swam in the mouth of the Chiloango and crossed the river to the other side… Amongst crocodiles - this I came to know latter on while talking to some local fisherman (most of them probably fighting or supporting the rebel group operating in that area). No need to mention that the return trip was made by canoe… – I like adventure but I’m not crazy. I flew like an eagle and saw the world from God’s eyes. I saw the Sahara from the top of a sand dune and crossed, bare foot, an Erg. I traveled at 120 km/h trough the Namibe desert, my hair waving at the wind… All of this I have done. My connection to the natural world is unbreakable and it will always be there no matter witch path I choose to travel.

This blog is dedicated to my latest adventure – a 180º shift in my professional life. Or maybe not that much… I believe that we don’t invent anything new but simply reproduce what Nature found long before the first human walked the Earth – that the logic behind any phenomena in the Universe is as simple as the smile of a child, no matter how many muscles she has to move to perform it. In this space I will share my past experience and talk about the new discoveries. It will also be a kind of journey diary. As, in fact, at the end of the day, it all resumes to that – a journey in this great voyage we call Life.
